JogTunes Adds More Peter's Picks and a Christmas Playlist

Happy Holidays everyone! Here's the latest on JogTunes.com:

I published a new playlist of 11 Christmas tunes for a perfect holiday workout. The BPMs start at a fast walk at 128, and peak at a fast 183. The cool down is a slower walk at 113 with Soulful Christmas by James Brown. You can get the whole package as an iMix on iTunes (US only) or order individual tunes from the playlist's page to fit your personal playlist needs.

I also just added more great music for paced running and other workouts. Peter Andersson's Picks for this month include many great metal tracks. I posted tunes by UnSun, Tank (from the 80s), Dream Evil, and Airbourne. In addition I posted three Metro Station pop tunes and another Bif Naked tune. They'll be on the home page of jogtunes.com until the next update. After that, just use the artist search feature.

You can find a great write up of Bif Naked's "Let Down" here.

And here's Peter's great commentary about Dream Evil's "Doomlord" sent to me by email:

"Swedish metal with a twist, the name of the song is a deliberate maltranslation pun on the name of a local bird, and the spoken part (which I assume is meant to sound possessed or something like that to non-Swedes) is actually about ornithology! They must have had great fun writing this one!

If you have an MP3 player, I've got Amazon/MP3 links for your convenience. If you continue to shop on Amazon after going there from a jogtunes link, I'll get commissions from your purchases. This is an easy way to help support jogtunes.com and my podcast, The JogTunes Indie Podcast.

Enjoy the season!

JogTunes Posts Running Music by Jack Johnson, Queensrÿche, Grammy Nominees, and More

This week, our veteran contributor, Peter Andersson, has come through with many new great tunes for running and other music-paced, BPM exercise. From his list I posted tracks by Samael, Prince, Queensrÿche, Metric, and The Libertines. Please check out these tunes on the new song listing on the home page of jogtunes.com. The BPMs range from 144 to 161. And go to Peter's fine website for more running tunes and great commentary about them.

On the iTunes Music Store, I learned about Jack Johnson's new album, Sleep Through the Static. The most runnable tunes from this album are Hope, If I Had Eyes, and the title tune, Sleep Through the Static. The BPMs are 173, 185 , and 140 respectively.

Before He Cheats, a country tune by Carrie Underwood, was nominated for a Grammy. It runs at a leisurely 148 and can also be found on our new tune list. Amy Winehouse's Rehab was also nominated and has been on my list for awhile. You can search for it under artist search at jogtunes.com.

I also posted Like a Star, which walks at 123 BPM. It's Corinee Bailey Rae's nominated tune for a Grammy.

Ok Go has an album that caters to exercisers. It's Master the Treadmill with Ok Go and can be found by clicking on Get Over It on our new tunes list. It runs at 186. I also posted another tune by Ok Go. It's Here It Goes Again from their album, Ok No. It's a leisurely workout at 146 BPM.

And from the UK come two bands with songs on our runnables list. I added The Game to our Faithless tunes. The Klaxons are new to JogTunes. I posted Totem on the Timeline and Golden Skans, running at 169 and 143.

Cyclists can learn more about safe biking to the beat on my website, BikeToTheBeat.com and all exercisers may find it fun and motivating to work out to my podcast episodes. There are 17 of them. You can find them on the podcast's iTunes page and at jogtunesindie.com.

I recently tried working out on a mini-trampoline and must admit that it's a great way to exercise indoors to music. You have to lift your legs fairly high to get your heart rate going but it certainly minimizes the impact on your knees.

Best of music-paced working out to everyone.

The JogTunes Group posts a new podcast episode and new running music

This is the week for the alternative genre at JogTunes. My latest episode (#17) accentuates the alternative with more that the usual tunes of that ilk. Check it out in iTunes or on my podcast site's home page.

After the holidays, downloads of the podcast accelerated to a whopping 4600 per month. I guess everyone's resolved to stay in shape this year.

Alternative's the word on JogTunes.com. I listed tunes by Silverstein and Ween with BPMs from 150 to 160 for some easy-going fun runs and other workouts. Other new bands on the list are Slipknot, The Gap Band, and Bullet for My Valentine. I also added 2 more tunes by Angels and Airwaves from their latest album, I-Empire.

Thanks go to jparkerc and mcdunn34 from the Runner's World Discussion Group, Best Running Playlist EVER, for their suggestions of the Silverstein and The Gap Band tunes respectively.

Peter's pick is The Illusionist by Scar Symmetry. This is one hard driving metal tune that's sure to motivate the laziest runner. Please check out Peter's great comment on this tune on his website. When you go there, scroll down to tune #44.

Don't forget, all of the music, podcasts, and playlists can be used for indoor cycling, aquarunning, stairmaster, elliptical, and even minitrampoline. If you have waterproof audio gear (e.g. http://h2oaudio.com/products.php), try the tunes for swimming.

I'm working on an upgrade of the JogTunes Group's set of websites. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Please send them to comment at jogtunes.com.

And, by the way, I put a Donate button on the podcast site, jogtunesindie.com. Please consider supporting my efforts to promote working out to the exact beat of great music and indie artists. You don't need a PayPal account to use their service. If you're interested, I do get affiliate marketing commissions for tunes that are purchased via links from my websites. That's the good news. The bad news is that Apple only pays 5 cents per tune. Granted, the small income from commissions helps a little, but considering the time I spend, it's minimal.

    Meanwhile, best of ruuning.
