When I first heard Louinel Jean’s new song, “Power of Love”, I immediately started planning this episode. It’s a perfect theme for the end of a tumultuous decade as it sets the tone for what I’m sure we all hope will be a smoother 10 years aided by the power of love. All of the tunes are about love, and range in BPMs from walking paces to tempos for all out running.

New Episode of the JogTunes Indie Podcast Featuring Reggae and Louinel Jean

The latest episode (#38) of the JogTunes Indie Podcast is out the door!

A year and 1/2 ago I published my first predominantly reggae episode and it ranked high on my download stats. Reggae is just plain easy and fun to run to. On this show, not only do I bring reggae to the forefront again but I feature an outstanding musician, composer, producer, and humanitarian, Louinel Jean.

Jean is a Haitian who moved to Jamaica in 1998. A man of deep compassion, Jean composes and performs music that not only entertains but inspires and informs. He calls for us to be our best and to be sensitive to the hardship of others, especially children.

Other tunes not included in this show keenly increase our awareness oif injustice. Check out two outstanding works on this theme: Darfur Outcry on Garageband.com and Justice on iTunes.

Jean first graced my show on episode #23 and then again on #33 with 3 of his most popular works. On this episode, I replay these tunes along with 2 newer Louinel Jean tracks, and tunes by 4 other artists in the reggae and dub traditions.

Songs about Running Added to the JogTunes Tunes List

I came across a great thread on Runner's World's website. It's all about songs about running. I found workout songs by many artists including Rush, Melissa Etheridge, A Flock of Seagulls, George Strait, and Collective Soul. Of course the thread listed Iron Maiden's Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. I already had that in my Tunes List as well as the popular Runnin' Down a Dream by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. My thanks goes to the many contributors to this thread.

Also, from iTunes' Top Tunes and Albums and New Releases: I found walkables and runnables by Colbie Caillat, Cobra Starship, Trey Songz, and Stars of Track and Field.

JogTunes Posts New Running Music - Mostly Coming from the UK

Two themes dominate our latest additions to our running music database. Here they are on the 2nd page of the JogTunes Tunes List.

    British Artists

I have a British connection. My son lives in Bristol. All the more reason that I posted a bevy of artists from the UK who join other Brits on our list including Coldplay, Amy Winehouse, Oasis, The Killers, and Gorillaz. We added walkable and runnable tunes by Lily Allen, The Streets, The Specials, Duffy, Take That, and Kasabian.

    Twitter Sources

A Twitter search under "running music" revealed some great posts about running to music. One tweet suggested The Maine and we posted "Into Your Arms" by The Maine which runs at 181.

Another tweet said rather poetically: "Drops of rain in the wind suitably coolant this morning; and Andy Sheppard's Movements in Colour proved good running music." We agree and posted "May Song" for a nice run at 162.

A more brief tweet: "Toadies = new favorite running music" resulted in our listing "I come from the Water" for another gentle run at 161.

    And Here's Peter's Picks

Peter Andersson is our veteran contributor of great running music and an insightful commentator. From his master list of the top 50 we posted Halford's "The One You Love to Hate," running fast at 183. Check out Peter's great comment about Halford on Peter's site. It's #18 on his list.

From Peter's latest posting on his site we found The Motion Sick and their easy jogging tune, "30 Lives (Up-Up-Down-Dance Mix)."

We return to the 30 + 15 minute format with a 30 minute sequenced run followed by a sprint segment that peaks at 184 with a tune by Jimmy Mancus.

JogTunes and the Fitnio Exercise Tracker iPhone App

Robby, a member of the Fitnio iPhone exercise tracking team app, recently introduced me to their program. Their uniqueness? Running music playlist integration. That means you can set up a playlist to use whenever you run. The app uses the built in GPS for tracking. It can be interfaced with their website, fitnio.com, for map acquisition, history, goal tracking, and more.

Check out the screen shot. Here's the info on music integration. And here's their blog.

This is one impressive app. When you launch it, don't forget to get your running music from jogtunes.com or load up our podcast episodes.

And shoot them a comment and tell them I sent you.

Then there's our small tribute to Michael Jackson. You can walk to "Billie Jean", jog to "Beat It", and run to "Call on Me".

Finally, Spinal Tap is Back from the Dead (album title). We posted "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight." It hauls at 180.

A New JogTunes Indie Podcast Episode Is Up for Running

Another episode of The JogTunes Indie Podcast is up for working out.

Exactly one year ago, on episode #22, all of the tunes I played were in the limited BPM range of the 150s. I recently received a compliment about that show from Michael on the JogTunes Facebook fan page. That prompted me to produce another single BPM range show. I chose the 160s because I believe most runners find it a comfortable range for working out. Some people may consider adding this episode to the 150s episode to create a very pleasant 80 minute, extended session. I welcome feedback about single range episodes and the concept of daisy chaining those shows. Please send your comments to comments at jogtunes.com or to my Twitter or Facebook pages.

You can check it out here on this Odeo Player.

There are more show notes and the playlist with BPMs on our podcast home page.

Disco is coming bit by bit to jogtunes.com, by request of some listener/joggers. The tempos are ideal for fast walking and slow jogging. See 2 tunes on the latest list on my home page.

And Eminem has returned with Relapse. Another great album for working out, we posted three tunes on the list.

JogTunes Additions: New Podcast Episode, Grammy Tunes, Nike+ iPod Links

I just published the latest episode (#30) of the JogTunes Indie Podcast. This is the first time I feature songs by only one artist. Check out the podcast page of my website, jogtunes.com, for details.

I also posted tunes by Grammy nominees and winners. You can find them listed in the Tunes List on the home page and the Tunes tab, between and including Sheryl Crow and Coldplay.
